With recent discussions of theology as it pertains to potentials, I thought I'd take this moment and reflect upon My Potential Family. Hannah is most ready to go into labor and as excited as we are scared we thank God for having given us this precious gift. And forall of the potential gifts to follow.
So what is allt he hype about 'potential'? Well recently several pseudo-theologians (and one real one) were discussing the arguements for and against birth control. It was brought forth that the position against birth control hinges on a specific understanding of potentiality. That understanding is that potential things actually have value, even though they are not actually existing. Hence non-existent things can have worth, value, etc. On the other hand, even existent things have potentials, for instance a child has the potential of becoming saved, being smart, studying metalurgy etc. Here is a picture of a precious potential...

Certainly an awesome picture for me, being as it holds so many responsibilities symbolized in it. My wife, reminding me of my covenantal vows to protect, provide and love. Our unborn child, reminding me to pray, be diligent and to glorify God. The light from the window, reminding me that life is fleeting and to redeem the time. The Hart's house reminding me that God has given me another, more true, family to support and honor. The camp, reminding me where my covenantal roots began, and to not take loved ones for granted. Thanks for the lessons learned, and captured here Amanda.
